Blog Clouds vanishes into thin airYou have probably heard about the magical powers of the Cloud™. Cloud Computing is the silver bullet to end all problems of mankind. You have never to take care of backups or tedious computer stuff. Someone else takes over your problems, your data and your hosting sorrows in a co-location centre Far, Far Away. Paradise has descended and is embracing the whole of information technology - unless your neighbours do not behave. Then you risk being shut down and having no access to your data anymore: Blogetery went offline on July 9, leaving some 70,000 subscribers with no way to access their blogs…Blogetery officials say the closure is permanent and users won't be able to retrieve content they stored on the service.…A Burstnet official told the news outlet they terminated Blogetery's service because the materials are a violation of its terms of service. While we do not encourage the pursue of illegal activites (be it in the Cyberspace or Real World), we want to point out that co-located services always carry risks despite being hosted in a 7×24 environment. Especially shared resources may run into a plethora of problems leading to the ultimate downtime. In the case of Blogetery is is highly doubtful that all 70,000 subscribers engaged in illegal behaviour at the same time. So be careful where you put your data.
